As I'm not Jewish, matzoh isn't something I keep in the house, and it's not something I've had in over ten years, when I was last invited to a Seder. I know there are specially made sweets for the holiday - the macaroons and jelly rings - but I hadn't seen these before. Apparently these are pretty exclusive items, because I've been unable to find the brand I purchased on the Internet. I had to cam in this photos, don't mind the background of my leopard print Snuggie:
This dark variety is pareve and comes two large sheets to a box. They aren't cheap, either - I think I paid about four bucks for the package. Holiday Candies is based in Moosic, Pennsylvania, which is southeast of Scranton. Like I said, there's no website, but I did find an Eddyleon Chocolate Company in the same town, so maybe they're associated. Who knows? You didn't come here for a geography lesson.
Basically this is what it is, a large matzoh wafer covered in dark, bittersweet chocolate. Since I was budgeting WW points tonight, I broke the cracker in two. Big mistake. No sooner than I did that, did the chocolate start to flake away. While the matzoh is somewhat enrobed, the chocolate doesn't cling, so this is a mess to eat. I imagine if I ate it intact, I'd get the same results.
The taste? Well, it's a chocolate covered matzoh, heh. Matzoh, in my opinion, is pretty dry on its own, and while the chocolate doesn't compound that it doesn't really enhance the flavor of the wafer. If you're looking for a chocolate snack that isn't going to tip the scales like a Snickers bar, and you can find these, give it a try. I personally won't stock up when Passover is over, but it is an interesting seasonal flavor.
