Fire Pit Cooked Chocolate

Homeowners who are looking to embrace the concept of outdoor living often incorporate a fire pit into their outdoor landscape. The fire pit offers not only beauty and character to the homeowner's backyard; it also offers a valuable culinary experience.

Indeed, many pit owners are creating an array of delicious meals, cooked on only the heat of the outdoor fire. It is common for pit owners to cook a variety of meat and vegetables over the open flame. But an often unexplored area of pit cooking promises delicious results as well. Fire pit meet chocolate!

Though it sounds a bit treacherous, pits can actually be used to produce scrumptious desserts. And seeing as how chocolate is regarded as the dessert to top all desserts, pit owners often incorporate its rich goodness into their backyard-cooked desserts.

Of course, one must not shun the foundational recipe of all chocolate campfire cooking - the s'more! No, it's not sophisticated. No, it's not unusual. But, oh how delicious is that combination of melting chocolate, gooey marshmallow, and crisp graham cracker. Another oldie but goodie is a steaming mug of hot cocoa. This is simple to prepare over a pit with the use of a campfire kettle.

But for pit owners looking to branch out to less common campfire food, there are options aplenty. Try the super-simple chocolate banana boats. Simply slice a banana down the center, fill with pieces of chocolate, wrap in foil, and bake over coals. Or for gourmet fare, try fire pit fondue. Place a campfire saucepan over the pit, and use it to combine chocolate and milk until the mixture reaches a creamy consistency. Dip fruit, marshmallows, and shortbread cookies into the chocolate fondue. Even better, grill the fruit first over your pit, and then dip it into the fondue.

There's really no limit to the dessert repertoire for the home pit cook. Many traditional dessert recipes can be adapted for use with outdoor cooking. It simply takes a little creativity. Chocolate certainly shines as a star ingredient of pit cooking. So, when your next outdoor party rolls around, get ready to wow your friends with your delicious pit-cooked chocolate concoctions.
