Rewarding Terrific School Scores

Some parents have debated whether or not one should reward good grades and school accomplishments with something sweet, like chocolate. I'm reminded of a PSA done for TV back in the 70s that discouraged that kind of behavior. It's something I wouldn't do for my child specifically, but she's not a chocolate eater so the point is moot.

As a student, I certainly could have used some encouragement and assistance, particularly where Algebra 2 was concerned. Being a weak math student, I nonetheless sought out the honors courses to fill out my schedule, but when it came to graphing linear equations and trying to decipher the
right formula for volume for the various problems I faced. It never occurred to me at the time to find a tutor to help me through the rough patches.

Mind you, if it gets to the point where my daughter struggles through 4th grade math or even 5th grade math, we will invest the time and money to ensure she can solve for X and excel at adding fractions. Regardless of how she does, however, we will continue to reward good behavior, even if there is a challenging math problem to face.
